This cohort study was carried out within a tertiary neonatal intensive care unit located in Turkey. Rooming-in accommodations were offered to 32 mothers (group 1) with their infants. A different subset of mothers (group 2, n=44) had their newborn infants hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit immediately after delivery and remained in the hospital for at least seven days. Application of the Turkish versions of the Beck Anxiety Inventory, Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale, Adjustment Disorder-New Module 8, and Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire was conducted on the mothers. At the end of the first postpartum week, group 1 underwent a single evaluation (test1). In contrast, group 2 underwent two assessments: test1 before the baby left the neonatal intensive care unit and test2 two weeks after discharge.
The Beck Anxiety Inventory, Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale, Adjustment Disorder-New Module 8, and Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire all exhibited scores within the normal range. In spite of the scale readings being within the typical range, a statistically significant correlation was observed between gestational week and both Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire 1 and Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire 2 scores (r = -0.230, P = 0.046). Live birth prediction using AI models for blastocyst evaluation, while relying solely on images, has encountered a plateau in performance, with the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) consistently hovering around ~0.65.
Employing a multimodal approach that integrates blastocyst images with patient couple data (including details like maternal age, hormone levels, uterine lining thickness, and semen parameters), this research aimed to predict live birth rates in human blastocysts. We implemented a new AI model utilizing multimodal data, featuring a convolutional neural network (CNN) for the processing of blastocyst images and a multilayer perceptron for analyzing the clinical characteristics of the patient couple. 17,580 blastocysts, including live birth outcomes, blastocyst images, and patient couple clinical details, constitute the dataset for this research.
Live birth prediction in this study yielded an AUC of 0.77, demonstrating a significant improvement over previous related studies. Of the 103 clinical factors considered, 16 features stood out as predictors of live birth, facilitating improvements in live birth prediction.
